The story behind the name 1918 – The Heart of the Barossa
The Great War was drawing to a close when, Friedrich Carl Gottleib Wallent, put the finishing touches to his fine home in Tanunda, the central town of the Barossa Valley. The year 1918, was chiselled into the foundation stone by the front door and remains there to this day. More than 70 years later in 1992, an enterprising group of locals turned the proud Wallent home into the Barossa’s first restaurant. A friendly and generous restaurant where Barossa winemakers could entertain their guests and visitors could relax after a hard day’s wine tasting.
Today the iconic Barossa restaurant is passionate about serving fresh, seasonally-inspired cuisine. Accompanied by carefully selected wines from the Barossa’s best and iconic Australian and International wineries – but guests are also welcome to bring their own special bottle.
